Camping No.2

I went camping again this past weekend. I booked a site that was on the other side of Puget Sound on the edge of the Olympic National Park. I assumed that because it would be so far away (about a 3 hour drive from Seattle - or 2 hours journey if you take a 30 min ferry) that we'd escape civilization. Arriving at the campsite on Friday night, the first thing we notice is that the major highway that goes around the Olympic mountains passes through our campsite. How depressing. Oh well. The next thing we notice is that our campsite is pretty much an open field - with maybe one or two trees here and there. Since it's dark on Friday, we can really only see our neighbours (who are in RVs) and we notice that one of our neighbours is Chinese (what Chinese person owns an RV???). When it is time to go brush our teeth at the washroom, we are pleasantly surprised to find that there are many more chinese people at the campsite - the entire washroom was filled with chinese ladies speaking mandarin. Wow. Turns out that one of the Chinese churches in Seattle happen to be having their church retreat that weekend at that very same campsite. What are the odds... So in the morning, we could see that there were hundreds of chinese people at the campsite.

Besides these small details, I had a great time :) We went digging for clams and collected a whole bucket full! We tried to catch a Dungeness crab but had no success (because we don't own a boat - darnit). We went for a hike in the Olympic Mountains and explored a beautiful waterfall. Since we didn't catch any crab, we ate the crab at a local restaurant in Dungeness, WA. We drove through Sequim, WA which is apparently known for growing lavender as it was growing EVERYWHERE and there were many U-CUT Lavendar signs along the roadside indicating that you could cut your own lavendar from their lavendar farms...??
