curling

on saturday, i visited (i think) seattle's only curling club to learn how to curl. i went with other chinese people - there were 18 of us in total - three were americans and fifteen were canadian (that's not too surprising is it). the curling club holds a sort of open house on select saturdays to the public. people come in and for $10 they get an hour of instruction (how to play, practice the basic moves, learn how to score, etc), and an hour of game time. since we were lucky and there was no one else waiting to play after our hour was up, we were able to play two games. I've got a big bruise on my gliding knee but this is only because i knocked it on the ice while gliding (which is poor form - you're not supposed to have your knee touching the ice at all). it's fun shouting at your teammates as they are sweeping down the ice. you're supposed to come up with your own cheer but the typical and popular ones were "HARDER!", "KEEP GOING!", "RUN!", "SWEEEEP!", "that was LAME!".

for those who are currently living in Canada, you gotta try this out - it's kinda like hockey - you haven't fully experienced what Canada has to offer until you've experienced the true canadian sports. :P
