Upon arriving at Kelso campground, my home for the Canada Day weekend, I soon discovered that we were much closer to civilization than I had originally thought. Our campsite was HUGE - we had enough room for 5 to 7 cars, 9 picnic tables, a bonfire pit, 5 tents and room left over to play soccer, or football. Our location was on the top of a hill so we got a bit of a view at the edge of our campsite - as you can see, our view consisted of the Niagara Escarpment, a campsite below in the valley and ... the railway in the distance! We could see cargo trains pass by approximately once every hour. Sometimes, we also so the GO train pass by. After it hit dark, we were able to see Milton lit up in the distance.
We spent the first night setting up the campgrounds with our tents and roasted oktoberfest sausages and weiners on wooden sticks. The night was warm but not too humid.
We woke up the next day around 8:30am. The tents had been set up in the sun so the intense brightness in the tent woke most of us up. Also, since the tents were not in the shade, they were like ovens in the morning. If you didn't wake up due to the brightness of the morning, you woke up cus you were boiling to death :S. Iulia and Han min treated the group to Romanian French Toast - French Toast the way her mom makes it - and sausages. The afternoon was spent on a hike along the Niagara Escarpment and a trip to the beach. We came back for dinner - chicken kabobs and... more sausages! Around dinner time, the weather suddenly changed from scorching hot to breezy and chilly. That night I was frozen in my sleeping bag. :S
Since our field was so big, we were able to play a game of soccer, some touch football and a little bit of frisbee.
Our bonfire game for that night was the Who's Most Deprived game. It's not surprising that Ju lost due to cheating. I think we can name Ju the queen of cheating. After this game, Jon took a handful of us to Timmy Ho's for soup all around :D Yeah, Timmy's was only a 5 minute drive away - hehehe.
Camping was a good idea. And I'm glad I went. It was a good time for me to get out and get a change in environment.
